Dear Friends,

On March 26th, 2008 M-POWERHOUSE held a Youth Symposium in which 170 youth attended and participated in a "Circle of Life Series" that discussed violence, sexually transmitted diseases, and a countless number of soci-economic conditions that negatively affect youth.

I want to thank Durham Public Schools, Southern High School, and Hillside High School students who participated in the Youth symposium. I want to thank the parents/ guardians for giving your future young adult an opportunity to participate in an event that discussed gang violence, sexually transmitted diseases, smoking cessation and tobacco usage, teen pregnancy, healthy eating habits, investing money for the future and the importance of voting.

Review the events page and look at the businesses, organizations, speakers and universities and college students who volunteered. I want to thank our board members Dr. Ira Q. Smith, Theresa Wahome, PhD., Thomas Spivey, CPA, Lieutenant Winslow Forbes, Dr. Harry Lightfoot, Jr., and Co-Founder Dr. Harry P. Marshall for their time and talents.

I want to reiterate a special thanks to Cy Young of Foxy 107/104 and K97.5 radio station, Lieutenant Howard Alexander of the City of Durham Police Department, Kawachi Clemons, Professor of Rap Music and North Carolina Central Universitiy Hip Hop Initiative and to keynote speaker Christopher (Play) Martin (formerly of Kid "N" Play) for his motivational, uplifting and heartfelt speech to the youth.

There is something happening in North Carolina when you see supporters come together. The momentum you all created cannot stop now. Together we can lead our youth in a new direction and create a model program. The tattered fiber is being woven. M-POWERHOUSE future plans is to have symposiums and educational venues throughout North Carolina and focus on the future M-POWERHOUSE Enrichment Center.

This email fundraising initiative is a neccessity when it comes to challenging ourselves to want something more for the future young adults of tommorrow. We need the brightest minds, but most importanly the warmest hearts to give.

M-POWERHOUSE is tax deductible. Give and get back in return. The seeds you help plant will become a fruitful harvest.

Thank you for all you've done,

Terry Smith

The purpose of the 2008 M-PowerHouse: Bridge To The Future Youth Symposium is to: (1) increase symposium participants knowledge about important health issues in communities at large; (2) utilize hands-on activities such as role plays, skits and real life stories that expose attendees to real life positive role models and the benefits of good decision-making; and, (3) provide opportunities for students to participate in discussions and activities which challenge them to utilize their critical thinking skills. Sample topics of discussion planned for the symposium include: violence prevention, peer pressure, HIV/AIDS, importance of voting, basic financial management, and the importance of high school graduation and beyond.

The 2008 M-PowerHouse Youth Symposium titled Bridge To The Future will have a profound effect on the overall well being of youth in North Carolina. Some of the participants of event include Kawachi Clemons professor of Rap Music at NCCU, Christopher (Play) Martin, Grammy Award Winning Producer and Recording Artist Ninth Wonder, Dr. Ira Q. Smith of Harris & Smith OB/GYN, Master of Ceremonies Cy Young, and most importantly the youth from Southern High School City of Medicine Academy, Southern High School Engineering Academy, Hillside High School Finance Academy and the Hillside High School Tech Program and others.

M-PowerHouse and adult participants want to create a domino effect and show youth and the Carolina communities that a united front of professional's from all walks of life have assembled to end violence. The event will enable 170 high school aged youth to increase their knowledge and awareness in the areas related to community violence and health issues. M-PowerHouse wants parents, educators, grassroots organizations and all concerned people to buy in to this program and future youth symposiums and educational venues.
